LSSN full time teaching staffMrs Janet Hodgson BSc, Dip Ed, DPSE Acting PT LSSN for one day per week - former APT of Science at Broughton High School. Trained in the use of ICT to support learning Mrs Hodgson has taken a lead role in the introduction of e-learning, especially Successmaker - to Broughton. Mrs G Innes ormerly assistant Principal Teacher of Guidance; Mrs Innes has been a learning support teacher at Broughton for 12 years and held similar posts at Ainslie Park School prior to the merger of this school with Broughton High in 1991. Mrs J Marsh ormerly teacher of Maths at Broughton and in Leeds . Mrs Marsh was also head of the 6 th Form and involved in the Dfee Numeracy Programme. Mrs E McFarlane Also a teacher of Modern Languages. Mrs McFarlane has been involved recently in a Modern Languages/LSSN project at Broughton.

Programmes- Tutoring in basic literacy and numeracy by LS teachers

Special Programmes Offered - Able Pupils Language enrichment
- Reading Recovery Programme
Offered in conjunction with the English curriculum, this programme is designed to improve reading speed and accuracy of S1/2 pupils and to cover aspects of reading missed in the earlier stages of education. Pupils attending this course follow a programme involving the revision of phonics and close reading of texts, with short assignments to be completed leading to independent reading skills
Paired ReadingSenior pupils are trained to work with younger pupils who experieince problems with reading. This is assessed and an SQA module in Community Involvement.
ICT SupportLSSN staff are involved in assessment and training of pupils in the use of laptop computers to support their learning and access to the curriculum. Specialised softeware is used in the LSSN base to support developing literacy and numeracy. Software to support the needs of dyslexic pupils is also available in the LSSN base.
Alternative Assessment ArrangementsAny pupil may request assessment of eligibility for sepcial arrangements for exams and tests from the LSSN team, who link with SQA to provide these. The City of Edinburgh have recently published guidelines for making special assessment arrangements and these are fully implented at Broughton.
