Here is a report from Mr Cairns of the Media Department after the success of some young Brougton film makers.

Broughton students won the Advertising Plus Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival schools event on Friday. This was one of 6 awards made in different categories as part of the inaugural Secondary Vision competition for young film makers in schools. Between the award ceremony at Filmhouse on Friday and the public screening at Cineworld on Saturday the students have reached an audience of around 4/500 people with a piece of work done as part of their course in Media Studies. Not only that but to have a winner’s award, from an event as prestigious as the EIFF, is a huge accomplishment for them.

It was a really exciting occasion for all our students and it was great to see how well film making in Broughton stood up against films made in other schools – I know I’m biased but I thought our film was far and away the best live action piece on show. I’m really proud of the students and I hope that you might take the chance to congratulate the winners if you see them. There is a lovely trophy ( which I will need to work out what to do with ) and, on Mr Fyfe’s return, we will be able to circulate photos from the event.

The winners were:- Caitlin Reid, Gina Cameron, Kirsty Mackay, Lorn McDonald, Beth Jack, Amy Leach
