Bids

No you haven’t missed anything – we’re waiting on confirmation of our budget before we open for bids. I know the wait is frustrating but bear with us and keep coming up with new ideas. I’ll let you know as soon as we have the information.

Maths Visit

Jane Gray had a very successful visit to the Geometry in Art exhibition at the Dean Gallery. Her class produced work which is now on display in her room – I’m sure she’d be delighted if you wanted to view it.

Marketing Apprentice

Thanks to all who allowed Katie Renton, Danielle Willis, Angie Livingstone and Ross Macrae to attend the initial meeting at Visit Scotland with Anna Godley. It was an interesting, if very intensive, start to the competition. More info as we progress.

State Street Bank

We have a new project with Maths/Business Studies and State Street Bank. Our Higher pupils in these subjects have been offered a chance to see their subjects “at work” in a visit to the bank offices. So far 76 students have expressed an interest and the visits will be around Christmas time. There’s a chance that it may also lead to employment opportunities – fingers crossed!  If any other departments would like to be linked with a suitable business partner – please get in touch. There are hundreds of opportunities out there.

Enterprise Space

Although we have an Enterprise space in Hall A – it isn’t the most practical place for working. So, we are on the look out for a new home. We would like somewhere that can be used by everyone as a work space, meeting area, library and store for resources and books. Any thoughts get in touch.

Team Projects

In May we had some excellent ideas for volunteer projects – when businesses offer their services to the school. It looks like the first of these will happen in October. Watch the space in Modern Languages and English….

Working Group

There is now an Enterprise Working Group. We couldn’t meet last week due to illness (mine!) but we are due to meet very soon and I’m sure you’ll start to notice more Enterprising things going on around the school. The members are: Lisa Evans, Audrey Gristwood, Stuart Donoghue, Anna Godley, Nicola Daniel and Catherine Frew. If you would like to join us or if you have any Enterprising ideas/initiatives for your subject, classroom or the school, please let us know.

Parent Council PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 31 October 2007

In August, as most of you will know, the School Board ceased to exist and has been replaced by the Parent Council. The Scottish Executive (as was) wanted to modernise and strengthen the links between parents and schools and to increase parental involvement in their children's education. Of course we have fully supported this and have made the changes required of us. However, one good thing about this new approach is that it allows us to be flexible and to put in place the structures, committees and groups which suit us best. So although we had to wind up the Broughton Association as part of this, we have kept the name to cover the fundraising side of the Parent Council activities. The Council will continue to help with the management of the school in a similar way to before and also intend as a priority to find ways to improve communication between the parents and the school - and the school with the parents.

We want the Council to include parent members to cover every year in the school, and we still have some places available. We also want more parents to help by getting involved in fundraising, for instance, and if you have any skills, knowledge and experience that you think would be useful then please get in touch. The first AGM of the new Parent Council is on 14 November and everyone is very welcome to come along.

We want to make parental involvement a reality - not just because the Government have told us to - and this will work best if as many of us as possible get involved!

Geoff Brown, Chairman.
